Job Summary:

 

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Development Manager to drive growth in high-end Pressure Sensitive Labels (PSL) and Linerless label solutions within the food and consumer goods markets. This role will focus on identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities, building long-term customer relationships, and maximising revenue potential from both new and existing accounts.

 

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in selling premium packaging or labelling solutions, a strong understanding of the food and FMCG sectors, and the ability to engage confidently with decision-makers at all levels.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Market Development – Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the food and consumer goods sectors for PSL and Linerless solutions.

  • Client Relationship Management – Build and maintain strong, long-term partnerships with key customers, understanding their needs and aligning our solutions to their objectives.

  • Sales Growth – Achieve and exceed agreed sales targets and KPIs through strategic account development and effective pipeline management.

  • Solution Selling – Present the technical, operational, and sustainability benefits of high-end PSL and Linerless labels to procurement, technical, and operational stakeholders.

  • Market Intelligence – Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.

  • Collaboration – Work closely with internal teams including Technical, Production, and Customer Service to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Reporting & Forecasting – Provide regular sales reports, pipeline updates, and market feedback to management.

 
 

People and Culture

*       Manage Internal relationships, providing service support solutions to lock and deliver ongoing value  

*       Develop understanding of customers market landscape to identify areas of opportunities to proactively look for opportunities to add additional value and efficiency improvements 

*       Serve as the liaison between Reflex Labels and the customer to support national accounts in improving overall customer service to offer unrivalled customer care 

 
 

Critical Skills / Capabilities:

 

*       Proven track record in B2B sales, preferably within the packaging, printing, or labelling industries.

*       Must be proficient in verbal communication and comfortable with F2F and Telephone comms.

*       Strong knowledge of PSL and Linerless labelling technologies, particularly in high-end applications.

*       Experience selling into the food and FMCG sectors with a network of industry contacts.

*       Excellent negotiation and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels.

*       Commercially astute with the ability to develop value-based propositions.

*       Self-motivated, target-driven, and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

*       Willingness to travel across the UK and occasionally internationally.

 

Technical Skills:

Product Knowledge

Label Materials – Understanding of face stocks (paper, film, foils), adhesives (permanent, removable, freezer-grade, wash-off), and liners for PSL.

Linerless Technology – Knowledge of silicone coating, adhesive patterning, and direct thermal vs pre-printed linerless formats.

Sustainability Attributes – Familiarity with recyclable, compostable, and downgauged materials to support customer sustainability goals.

Print Methods – Knowledge of flexographic, digital, and hybrid printing for high-end graphics and variable data.

 

2. Application & Performance Understanding

End-Use Requirements – Understanding label performance in chilled, frozen, wet, and oily environments (common in food production).

Adhesion Testing – Knowledge of how adhesives behave on different substrates (plastic, glass, cardboard, films).

Durability Factors – Awareness of temperature resistance, scuff resistance, UV resistance, and moisture resistance.

Application Machinery – Familiarity with applicator technology (PSL applicators, linerless label dispensers, print-and-apply systems) and their integration into production lines.

 

3. Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge

Food Contact Regulations – Understanding of EU/UK regulations on food-safe inks, adhesives, and materials.

Allergen & Nutrition Labelling Standards – Familiarity with UK FIC (Food Information to Consumers) requirements.

 

4. Value Proposition & ROI Analysis

Cost vs Lifecycle – Ability to calculate and present total cost of ownership, including waste reduction and line efficiency improvements from linerless adoption.

Sustainability ROI – Quantifying carbon footprint reductions and waste savings to meet CSR targets.

Production Efficiency – Understanding line speed impacts, roll changeover frequency, and downtime minimisation.

 

5. Technical Communication

Ability to translate technical benefits (e.g., reduced liner waste, improved print resolution) into commercial and operational advantages.

Strong specification writing skills for tenders and technical proposals.
